TSRTC bus fare to increase again

There is a possibility that Telangana State Road Transport Corporation will once again increase bus fares. Based on the reports, TSRTC plans to raise bus prices again by 20 to 30% in addition to diesel cess, toll cess, and passenger safety cess.

TSRTC recently announced diesel cess slabs based on the distance traveled by passengers in all types of buses.

TSRTC student bus pass fares in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as rural districts, have been raised. The cost of a bus pass has not increased in the last three years.

Tickets for distances less than 100 kilometers are expected to increase by 30%. According to reports, a 20% increase is in effect for Pallevelugu, Ordinary, and Express buses.

The Corporation buses consume nearly 6 lakh liters of diesel each day, and the price of bulk HSD oil has increased from Rs. 84.75 per liter in December 2021 to Rs.118.73 per liter in March 2022.

Due to an abnormal increase in diesel cost, the corporation is currently incurring losses of nearly 5 crores a day due to an abnormal increase in fuel costs, a press note from TSRTC said.

TSRTC bus fares and student bus passes have increased suddenly, causing concern among city students. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has increased student bus passes by nearly 130%.

On 9 April, the Corporation imposed a diesel cess of Rs. 2 per ticket on Pallevelugu and city ordinary services and Rs. 5 per ticket on all other services.

According to the Corporation, the cost of operations has also increased and it cannot cover the expenses without imposing additional diesel taxes.

With the proposed addition of a diesel cess and an increase in bus pass fares for students, the Corporation will only be able to recover a portion of its operating costs. In Telangana and neighboring states, TSRTC ferries over 30 lakh passengers and about 12 lakh students every day.
