Two farmers die in Nalgonda due to lightning strike

Two farmers died and three people were injured after being struck by lightning in the Nalgonda, Siddipet, and Jagitial districts of Telangana during the early morning hours of Wednesday.

The heavy rains were accompanied by gusty winds and lightning in Telangana early Wednesday.

While they were out covering paddy farm produce, Linga Swamy, a farmer from Modinigudem in Nakirekal Mandal of Nalgonda district, and Souda Pochaiah, another farmer from Narlegandla in Siddipet, were struck by lightning.

Also, the oxen belonging to a farmer, Errabacha Bikshapathi, were killed in lightning strikes in the area. The oxen were worth around Rs 1.5 lakh, the farmer said.

A lightning strike hit a shepherd’s camp and killed 43 goats and injured two others in Balvanthapur, Jagitial.

As a result of the recent rains that lashed the state on Wednesday, Telangana residents have been able to escape the heat a little more comfortably.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hanamkonda and Nalgonda witnessed temperature drops of 6.6 degrees Celsius and 5.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, while Hyderabad and Ramagumdam saw temperature drops of 4.9 degrees Celsius and 5.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.

IMD’s Hyderabad Center reported an average maximum temperature for the day of 34.4 degrees Celsius. Hanmakonda, Nalgonda and Ramagundem all recorded a maximum temperature recorded at 34.3 degrees Celsius, 35 degrees Celsius and 36.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

While the summer heat was greatly relieved, low-lying areas were inundated and waterlogged by the heavy rains that hit Hyderabad early Wednesday morning.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Habshipur in Siddipur district recorded 108 mm of rainfall until 6 a.m. with its vast network of automated weather stations. As of 6 a.m., the highest rainfall was recorded in Seethafalmandi near Secunderabad, followed by Bansilalpet (67 mm) and West Marredpally (61.8 mm).
