UK To Roll Out Third Covid 19 Vaccine Jab Against Covid Variants; Reports

With the rising cases of Covid 19 across the world and the concerns over new variants, the UK government is considering giving the third shot of the Covid 19 vaccine for everyone above the age of 50 years.

UK Considers Alternatives To Reduce The Threat Of New Variants

As per the latest reports, the UK government is currently considering two options to reduce the threat posed by the Covid 19 variants. The first option is to vaccinate people with the vaccines for specific variants and the second is to give a third shot of either Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca or Moderna vaccines. These vaccines have already been approved for use against the Covid 19 in UK.

The plan is to vaccinate the ones above 50 by autumn. Reports suggest that the early findings from the trails have raised hoped within the government that either of the two approaches will nullify the threat from the existing and new variants. For now, the third shot will only be given to the population which are more at risk than others i.e, the ones above the age 50 years and the ones who have underlying conditions. At the same time, the third vaccine shot will be provided with the annual jab.

A senior government minister released a statement and said that they will have a lot more information regarding the booster programme soon. But so far, it’s looking positive.

He said that the level of protection against Covid 19 within the population would be much higher by Christmas. And by that time, Covid 19 would have faded into the background like any other illness. Furthermore, there are chances that they might not need to give a third jab to the younger population as the infection would have contained heavily by then.
