Hyderabad: Urdu has the potential to become an international language for communication like English. In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where earlier court proceedings were used to be done in the Arabic language only, advocates are now allowed to plead the cases in the Urdu language also. Dr. Aquil Ahmad, Director, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), New Delhi expressed these views today at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) during the inauguration of the training program for teachers of Madrassas. He was the Chief Guest.
Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers, MANUU in collaboration with NCPUL is organizing the 7 days program. Prof. Fatima Begum, Vice-Chancellor I/c, presided over the inaugural whereas Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah, Registrar I/c was the Guest of Honour.Dr. Aquil Ahmad while congratulating CPDUMT for conducting 62nd training program said that besides teaching, provision of training is the hallmark of Madrasas. Ensure modern education along with the conventional teaching, students need to be taught moral values also, he added.
Speaking to participants of the program, Dr. Ahmad advised them to become ambassadors of Urdu as this language is our culture too. Urdu is surviving because of Madrasas in India. Schools & Colleges are not doing enough to promote the Urdu language, he remarked.
Prof. Fatima Begum in her presidential remarks said that Teaching is not only an art but also a Science. Experimental teaching is quite effective and teachers should understand the needs and requirements of the students. Praising is more effective than punishment, she advised. Teachers should also inculcate values in the students and become their role models. Teaching should bring change in the behavior of learners, she added.
Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah emphasized that the art of teaching is not so easy but commitment towards teaching makes a teacher successful. A good teacher is always a student. Islam gives immense importance to education yet the Muslim community is lagging behind in the education field, he reminded.
Earlier, Prof. Mohammed Abdul Sami Siddiqui, Director, Centre welcomed the gathering and said that the training program is a combination of respecting the noble profession and equipping it with modern demands. Prof Siddiqui Mohammed Mahmood, Convenor Program briefed about the program and spoke about the vision to promote Urdu as a medium and English as marketing skill. To promote the Urdu language it is necessary to strengthen Urdu schools, he said.
