Urdu medium schools in Telangana require better infrastructure

Urdu Academy in Telangana has stopped funding Urdu medium schools across the state since the state’s formation. Despite the fact that Urdu was declared the second state language by the Telangana government, no improvements to the infrastructure of Urdu medium schools have been made.

The govt school conditions show that the government places the least focus on providing good infrastructure facilities in Urdu medium govt schools. The government has taken no steps to improve the basic infrastructure facilities in these schools. These issues are obstructing the growth of Urdu medium schools in Telangana.

According to the data, the number of new admissions to Urdu medium schools in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad has decreased. Urdu academy in Telangana should therefore develop a fresh infrastructure scheme for Urdu medium schools in order to improve their situation.

Mr. Khwaja Mohammed Mujeeb, President of Urdu Academy, previously stated that various infrastructure activities and new schemes would be launched soon. However, no activity on that account has been detected thus far.

School staff, students face English barrier

Students in budget private schools and government schools frequently lack proficiency in English because their teachers teach them in the local language. According to an NGO study, in addition to students, 85 percent of teachers who teach English in schools have the same level of English proficiency.

As per educationists, the main disadvantage of this issue is a severe staff crunch. In low budget private schools and government schools, the teachers who teach English, particularly in the primary section, have studied in Urdu and Telugu medium schools, and the students who attend these schools have less exposure to the English language in society and surroundings.

The primary reason for students’ lack of English proficiency is that teachers in these schools communicate with students only in Telugu or Hindi. Another reason is that students are not exposed to society in order for them to learn or speak English.
