Uttam makes birthday vow to defeat TRS in next polls

Hyderabad: Thousands of Congress party workers and leaders thronged Gandhi Bhavan to celebrate the 56th birthday of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy turned 56 on Wednesday.

The occasion was celebrated with grandeur and fanfare by the Congress party workers who reached Gandhi Bhavan in small and large groups throughout the day. They cut the cakes and participated in other celebrations. They wished Uttam Kumar Reddy a long, healthy and prosperous life and expressed confidence that the Congress party would come to power in Telangana State in 2019 under his leadership. Grand celebrations were also organised at his residence in Banjara Hills. Special pooja, blood donation camp, distribution of fruits among patients and similar activities were also organized across the State, especially in Huzurnagar and Kodad constituencies.

AICC Secretary V. Hanumantha Rao, TPCC Vice-President Dr. Mallu Ravi, TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy, Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav and other senior leaders participated in the celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan.

Birthday wishes poured in for Uttam Kumar Reddy from Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, Leaders of Opposition K. Jana Reddy and Shabbir Ali and many other dignitaries including MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders belonging to all political parties.

Later, in an informal chat with media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Uttam Kumar Reddy thanked the Congress party workers for the love and affection they have showered on his birthday. He expressed his resolve to work hard to bring the Congress party to power in Telangana.
“Congress prepared for PR Polls”

Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the State Government explain the basis on which seats were being reserved in the forthcoming Panchayat Raj elections. Stating that the reservation of Sarpanches was not being done in a scientific manner, he said that there were lot of contradictions in the new Panchayat Raj Act and its implementation. Therefore, he said that the government must come clear on reservation policy in the Panchayat polls.

The TPCC chief also demanded that the findings of Intensive Household Survey, conducted by the State Government, in August 2014, should be made public. He said the data collected in the survey should be placed in the public domain so as to provide a clear picture on the basis on which reservation of seats in Panchayat Raj elections is being done.

Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the Congress party would soon convene mandal-level meetings to discuss reservation of seats for Sarpanches. He said that the Congress party was fully prepared to face and win the Panchayat Raj elections.

The TPCC chief said that many leaders belonging to TRS, BJP and TDP were waiting to join the Congress party. However, he did not disclose the names or the time when they would be formally joining the Congress. (NSS)
