Vaccination Shield for Children, Booster Dose from Jan 10: Harish Rao

Telangana Health and Finance Minister T Harish Rao today stated that vaccination will be a shield of protection for children as omicron cases are increasing in the country and the state.

He informed that the booster dose of vaccination will be given to the old aged persons above 60 years in the state from Jan 10. Harish Roa began a vaccination drive for children above 15 years of age at a hospital in Banjara Hills hospital here with officials. Speaking on the occasion, he said that they have started a vaccination drive for the children as Omicron cases are on the rise across the country.

The Minister asserted that the children and old aged people have to take the vaccination. The minister said that the vaccination will protect the children from the Corona and Omicron.  The Centre has allowed the vaccines to be given to the children and booster dose for the old aged persons, he said. Following the guidelines from the Centre we just began the vaccination for the children now. He also said that the officials will start giving the second dose to children in four weeks and booster doses for the old aged across the state from Jan 10. The state has achieved 100 percent first dose of vaccination and 66 percent-plus second dose in the country, he claimed.  The minister congratulated the health staff for their efforts to vaccinate people. The state government has started vaccination for children as Omicron cases are on the rise across the country.

The Minister said that the government is ready to tackle Omicron cases and there is no need for fear. Since Omicron is less severe and spreading fast and the health wing is taking all measures to check its spread he said. Our hospitals are fully equipped with staff, medicines, beds and vaccines, and necessary support to provide better services to the people. The people should avoid fear and follow protocols to save themselves from Omicron, or corona cases.

There are 18.70 lakh children above 15 to 18 years and those born after 2007 can take the vaccination, he said. The minister urged the colleges and parents to support the vaccination of the students and children during special drives for safety. There are 1014 centers of vaccination in the state, while Hyderabad and 12 corporations registration is available to avoid rush, he said. The minister said that people in other places like districts, towns, and mandals can get the same direction. The government is ready to tackle the third wave as omicron cases are rising and the positivity rate is at 4 times high. Despite this the people should avoid fear and follow corona protocols. We give covaxin for children and second dose in four weeks, he added.
