Vegetable prices low-Common man happy

Hyderabad: Vegetable prices which were skyrocketing and making a hole in common man pocket, have drastically come down compared to last some days, thanks to the Corona effect and arrival of fresh stock of local vegetables in the market. On one hand, the denizens are happy for reasonable prices but the ryots are disappointed for not getting minimum support prices for their production.

The high prices of the vegetables in the lockdown period drastically came down now. The officials have set up the mobile rythu bazaars to sell the cheap vegetables in different parts of Hyderabad.

Tomatoes’ price was 40 to 50 rupees per kilo two weeks earlier however now its price is 15 to 20 rupees per kilo. Due to the excess rain in the last two weeks, the prices have come drastically. The other items prices as follows: Brinjal 30 rupees per kilo, lady’s finger 25 rupees per kilo, green chilies 15 rupees per kilo, capsicum 55 rupees per kilo, bitter gourd 30 rupees per kilo, Donda 20 rupees per kilo, Ridge gourd (Hybrid) 25 rupees per kilo, carrot 56 rupees per kilo, Potatoes 25 to 30 rupees per kilo, beans 25 to 30 rupees per kilo.

One of the officials of the Rythu bazaar claimed “ almost all the items are in the reach of the common man as the price of many of them are around 30 rupees per kilo. The customers are not seen in the Rythu bazaar due to fear of Covid19. Pre lockdown I had to sell the vegetables up to 10,000 rupees now the scene is reversed as I can sell greenery of only 3000 rupees”.ec

One of the Customers pointed out that he is visiting the market once in a week, however, he was surprised this week as the prices are low. The prices of the other leafy are also low.

The peasants are unhappy with this situation and claimed that they are not getting the minimum support price and the transport of vegetables to the market is also a problem for them.
