Wakf Board ceded to the members’ demand, provide week time to chew over agenda

Almost nine months after the formation of the new body, the Telangana State Wakf Board called a meeting on July 5, to discuss the issues pending for a long time. But to the dismay, this meeting too was postponed for atleast a week at the last moment.

Only a few days ahead of the proposed meetings, most of the members raise objections against passing intimation of meeting without furnishing the agenda and agenda notes to get prepared in advance.

Even the wakf activists raised the hackles against the way the meeting was called without giving a straight dope to the members. “Despite the fact that the board was met only twice last year, the present and newly elected body too appeared impassive towards conducting the meeting regularly,” rued Syed Iftekhar Hussaini, Wakf Activist.

It is only after the brouhaha, the Wakf Board management released the agenda and its notes that too only a night before the proposed meeting leaving no sufficient time for the members to chew over the issues in length.

Taking the issue very seriously, some of the members even raised the matter before the chief executive officer Wakf Board and stated that passing intimation of meeting without serving the agenda and notes is tantamount to a violation of Wakf Act. They urged the official to provide sufficient time to ponder over the agenda notes before turning up to the meeting.

Abul Fateh Syed Bandagi Badesha Quadri, a member of the Telangana State Wakf Board in his letter to CEO Wakf Board, reminded the official that the agendas and notes of the meetings need to be supplied atleast seven days before the scheduled discussion. This would help the members to chew over the issues meticulously. “Providing the agenda and notes just before the meeting amounts to forcing the members to make hasty decisions more likely in favour of powers that be which is not only unethical but also malafide,” he asserted.

Convinced with the concerns raised by the members of the board, the CEO Wakf Board has decided to call the meeting on July 14 only to provide the members seven days of time to go through the agenda and its notes in length before sitting together again.
