Wanted Criminal Entered Police Station in UP wearing “Please Do Not Shoot Me” Placard

A movie-like scene occurred in an Uttar Pradesh police station when a man walked in wearing a placard around his neck that said: “I feel afraid of Sambhal police. I confess my mistakes. I am surrendering. Please do not shoot me.”

This happened when a man named Naeem, carrying a bounty of Rs 15,000 on his head walked in the Nakhasa police station on Sunday. He was booked under the Gangsters Act and surrendered but only after he was sure that he was not going to be killed in an encounter.

It is not the first time that a criminal has surrendered to the cops with a placard seeking mercy. Many criminals have surrendered in this way in Amroha and Kanpur, Dharampal Singh a station house officer said.

The criminals were brought along local media persons to “ensure their safety” in all of the three occasions. Following the Bikru incident that happened in Kanpur, in which six members of the Vikas Dubey gang were taken down in encounters, criminals have adopted wearing placards as a media tactic.

Vikas Dubey a gangster who was killed in an encounter the day after he was arrested while trying to flee from the custody of the Uttar Pradesh police after the Special Task Force convoy met with an accident on their way back to Kanpur from Madhya Pradesh. The first case against Vikas Dubey was registered in the early 1990s and by 2020 he had more than 60 cases against him. Vikas Dubey surrendered before the Chaubepur police dramatically by wearing a placard and seeking forgiveness for his crimes.

Umakant, also known as Guddan was accompanied by his wife, daughter, and other family members at the time of his surrender a senior Police Officer told.

He came to the police station with a confession placard and asked for forgiveness from the police. The members of his family pleaded with them to save his life after he was taken into custody he said.
