Weavers ask govt to promote local variety of textile during Ramzan

Anticipating the fast-approaching festive season of Ramzan, the Padmashali community of weavers ask the Government to promote the variety of textiles manufactured by native weavers in Telangana that would help them develop culturally and economically.

Explaining that the weavers largely counts on manufacturing textiles in the city and surrounding districts are facing issues in carrying out day to day activities due to exorbitant rates of material, fewer demand and lack of markets, President Telangana Padmashali Sangan Mayadam Babu Rao said, “The government should bring more measures into play for the overall promotion and welfare of the weavers community that largely counts on preparing a domestic variety of clothes.”

While addressing a weavers awareness meeting at Narsingh on Saturday, he said, “Owing to the fast-approaching festive season of Ramzan, the government should focus on promoting cloth, a variety of cloths mainly prepared by the native weavers. This will somehow buttress support to the industry and ensure the development of the Padmashali community in the state.”

During the meeting, an election for new office bearers of the sangam was also held.  Nakka Mallikarjun was elected as the publicity secretary of the sangam. President Mayadam Babu Rao conferred on him the certificate of appointment.

Welcoming the Minister K.T.Rama Rao’s chinning up announcement of inviting more number of buyers from abroad to promote the white variety of cloths prepared by native weavers, Nakka Mallikarjun, the Publicity Secretary of the Sangam said, “We welcome the announcement and hope the government rolls out measure on the earnest given the fast-approaching festive season of Ramzan to help weavers get more promotion to their produce and business.”

Apart from Rajanna Sircilla district, the hub of the native textile industry, he said, hundreds of families belonging to the Padmashali community live in Hyderabad city and adjoining districts. Katedhan, Padmashalipuram, Durganagar colony, Lakxmiguda in Rajendranagar,  Karvan, Ramnagar, Gudimalkapur in Hyderabad, Narsingi and Manikonda in Rangareddy district, Ramchandrapuram, Sandareddy, Mahboobnagar, Narayanpet, Gadwal, Kottakota, Wanaparthy and srisailam etc.,  are the areas were the weavers’ community performing their business predominantly.

“However, he said, no support from the government, lack of an adequate number of buyers and appropriate markets despite the adequate stock of textile are the issues that are taking a toll on the weavers.”
