While UP is already implementing, VHP want similar anti-conversion law in whole country

Spurred over the Supreme Court observation that force conversion trend is a serious issue, the Vishva Hindu Parishad, also known as VHP, has urged the Centre to introduce an anti conversion law to prevent force conversion incidents in the country.

Joint General Secretary Central Committee unit Surender Jain raised the issue saying that the incidents being reported from across the country and the Commission formed to discuss the issue assertively said that the force conversion issue is an obvious threat to the very basics of national security.

“Although the supreme court suggested a need for inaction of a central law against forced conversion of religion while dealing with several issues in the past no practical approach has been adopted in this case. Though it has been proven many times that conversion of religion by tempt or coercive manner is an unlawful act, no measures have been taken so far.  In the absence of any such law, the perpetrators will not be brought to justice for sure,” he contended.

Recently the Supreme Court observed that a dangerous situation will arise in the country if we fail to prevent force conversion incidents. While observing that forceful, enticing  and deceptive conversion will leave a serious impact over the national security and religious freedom, the Supreme Court said “This will also hurt the sentiment and conscience of the citizens identically.” As such, the SC directed the centre to take appropriate measures in this regard and inform  the court what it really meant to do to prevent such incidents.

The court said “though we can agree with the rights of religious freedom but we can’t allow the coercive conversion of religion. It is really a matter of grave concern. Everyone has a right to choose the religion but it should not be done through tempt or coercive manner.”

Already the menace of force conversion has changed the geography of the country and thrown to the tender mercies of geostrategic, geopolitical and geo-cultural catastrophe, it is now putting the security, prosperity and regional sovereignty of this country into jeopardy, maintained Surender Jain.

It is not out of place to mention here that the UP government has already introduced a Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance and special teams have been formed to deal with the cases wherein Hindu girls were found marrying the boys from other religions.

It is learnt that prosecution has been done in over 268 such cases so far under the ordinance. By the month of September 2020, a total number of 709 accused were framed under the law while noose of 131 persons were tightened during the investigation. Though the police took a total number of 454 accused into custody under the law, the local media is pointing fingers at 840 people.
