WHO Questions Indian Covid Variant Impact Amidst Worsening Situation

Amidst the rising cases in India and the growing concerns about the Indian Covid variant, the World Health Organisation has released a statement for the same. They have warned that the new Indian variant is yet to be classified as worrying.

WHO Is Yet To Confirm The Extend Of Indian Covid Variant

As per the statements by the WHO spokeswoman, the organisation is not clear if the Indian variant is responsible for the rapid increase in the Covid 19 cases in the country. She said that there are many other factors that could be responsible for the same. This includes festivals and events with many participants which could have accelerated the infections across the nation.

Furthermore, the increase in the number of the British coronavirus might also be another reason that could have affected India’s epidemiological situation. However, the World Health Organisation did recognise the British, South Africa and Brazilian variants of the Coronavirus are worrying. And these spread more easily, it could unfold a series of more serious infections which could potentially bypass the immune system and even reduce the effectiveness of the known treatments.

WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in Geneva on Monday that there have been an increase of infections overall. He said that the number of infections have been on an increase from the past nine weeks along with the number of reported deaths that have been increasing from the past six weeks.

He added that the cases reported in the past few weeks were pretty much the same as the first five months of the pandemic. Furthermore, the situation in India is “more than heartbreaking”.

Covid 19 Situation In India Continues To Worsen

As per the latest reports, India’s death toll because of the Coronavirus is nearing the 2 lakh mark. The nation reported 2771 fatalities in the past 24 hours.

At the same time, the armed forces in the country have pledged to help with urgent medical aid to battle the spike in infections.

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 323,144 new cases. However, the nation continues to suffer from the shortage of beds and oxygen supplies in hospitals.
