“Will ensure orderly transition”- Trump as Congress certifies Biden, Harris victory

Following the extremely chaotic and disturbing barge-in of Trump supporters on Wednesday in the US Capitol Hill, Congress has officially declared Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the President and Vice President of the United States, respectively.

The certification comes despite the weeks-long moves of Trump to overturn the election result that showed Biden as the clear winner as the former landed with 232 votes compared to the latter’s 306.

As Trump’s Wednesday morning inflammatory speech provoked supporters to break down the barricades put up outside the building, the President later accepted a smooth transition for the entry of Biden into the White House as the next chair holder.

Donald Trump said, “there will be an orderly transition” after Congress certified Biden and Harris as winners post the electoral vote count.

White House spokesperson Dan Scavino tweeted Trump’s statement that read, “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless, there will be an orderly transition on January 20. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

With this, it has been concluded that Joe Biden will be installed as the President of the United States on January 20th as scheduled earlier, giving no way for Trump’s denial to acknowledge the elections as legitimate to cease the inauguration.

After the Capitol building incident, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell stated that the Senate will not get scared of the show put up by pro-Trump protestors. “We will not bow to lawlessness or intimidation. We are back at our posts. We will discharge our duty under the constitution,” McConnell said following the resumption of the Senate when protestors were forced out from the building.

According to the US Constitution, Congress needs to count the votes of the Electoral College furnished individually by all states in order to announce a candidate’s victory.

Though the votes count crowned Biden as the President, Trump continued to maintain that method of balloting in key states was “fraud” and the election was stolen from him.

Trump supporters were unable to submit evidence to back their claim of any occurrence of fraud in the states in order to turn the election result in their favor. Dozens of Trump’s allegations were dismissed by courts as he did not seem to rest his bag of claims.

Some of the Republican senators had planned to raise objections to the win of Biden in key states of the US where he took the lead- Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Many lawmakers believed the move to fail miserably as both the chambers decided to jointly reject the fake claims and plant their vote in the bank of Biden.

However, things took a drastic turn when protestors invaded the Capitol and the Senate had to rush into an emergency recess to disperse the agitating rioters. This made the Republican representatives and senators back away from their previous plans of debating at length to grant victory to Trump by challenging the votes count of each state.

As for the Arizona claim, following the reconvention of the House and Senate, both the parties voted to dismiss it. Senate gave a vote tally of 93-6 while House voted 303-121 to reject the objections.

The second objection of Pennsylvania saw a similar fate, though the procedure was continued till Thursday morning. Senate voted 92-7 compared to House’s 282-138, giving clear intimation of the final certification and announcement of winners.
