Woman jumps off building with son, blames neighbours in suicide note

After alleged harassment from neighbours, a 44-year-old widow died by suicide after she jumped from her 12-floored apartment in Mumbai. The woman took her young son along in the act that took place on Monday.

The incident took place in Powai high-rise Tulipia building located on Nahar Amrit Shakti road of Chandivali at around 2.30 am, as per the Sakinaka police. The woman, a homemaker, jumped from the building with her minor son, Garud.

The reason for the extreme step was blamed on her neighbours as Reshma Trenchil, the victim, accused them in her suicide note of disturbing her by complaining of her son making noise. The complaints forced her to die, she wrote in the letter.

Taking the note into consideration, the police filed a case against a 33-year-old, who is one of the neighbours residing in the flat below Ms Trenchil’s. The man has also been arrested late on Tuesday evening, the cops said. They have been charged under IPC sections 306 and 34.

Ms Trenchil had been going through a difficult time after her husband died of covid-19 recently. She was left alone with her 7-year-old son in their Chandiwali apartment. The family had shifted into the flat in April this year. Since they moved, Ms Trenchil had issues with the neighbours who often complained of her son making noise as that disturbed them.

According to sources, though the elderly neighbours, Ayub Khan aged 67, his 60 years old wife and son Shadab, were accused in the case, Ms Trenchil was depressed after the demise of Sarat Mulukutla, her husband. He worked at an online trading platform for agricultural commodities as a Chief Business Officer.

Mr Mulukutla died of covid on May 23rd after contracting the disease while aiding his infected parents. He had left for Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to take care of his parents who died shortly before their son of the fatal disease.

Due to the covid restrictions, she wasn’t allowed to attend his last rites, which saddened Ms Trenchil further. On May 30th, she wrote an elaborate emotional post on Facebook, mentioning her ordeal and the pain she went through after her 49-year-old husband’s death.
