“Women wearing ripped jeans give wrong example to kids”-Uttarakhand CM

Newly elected Chief Ministeof Uttarakhand Tirath Singh has made headlines with his controversial statement of objecting to women wearing ripped jeans, calling it unethical and a wrong example for the children.

The CM went on record to deliver comments stating his opinion as according to him the outfit doesn’t offer the right environment for kids at home.

The statement was made on Tuesday during a workshop held in Dehradun by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Mr Tirath expressed his shock over the woman’s attire running an NGO while wearing ripped jeans and said that he was concerned” regarding the picture she is showing in society.

“If this kind of woman goes out in the society to meet people and solve their problems, what kind of message are we giving out to society, to our kids? It all starts at home. What we do, our kids follow. A child who is taught the right culture at home, no matter how modern he becomes, will never fail in life,” he said.

He stepped up and let out his detestation for children exposing “bare knees” while stressing that while foreigners inculcated Indian yoga in their lives and covered their body, “we run towards nudity”.

Kaynchi se sanskaar (culture by scissors) – showing bare knees, wearing ripped denim and looking like rich kids – these are the values being given now. Where is this coming from, if not at home? What is the fault of teachers or schools? Where am I taking my son, showing his knees and in tattered jeans? Girls are no less, showing their knees. Is this good,” he said.

His absurd opinions were seconded by one of the new ministers in his administration, Ganesh Joshi. He bombarded that women must give most importance to raising good children as they never give priority to it. “Women talk about all things they want to do in life, but the most important thing for them is to look after their family and children,” he said.

Going ahead to react on the tone-deaf comments was Congress leader Sanjay Jha.

“Wearing “#rippedjeans” destroys our culture, it seems. It leads to substance abuse. And a societal breakdown. Women should strictly avoid this sacrilege against our pristine customs, says Uttarakhand CM. Dear BJP, this is your CM Tirath Singh Rawat: Do you endorse this,” Mr Jha shared on his social media profile.

The Youth wing of Congress also retaliated to the remarks and questioned in a tweet, “Is this the mentality of Chief Minister? In this modern India, where are we heading.”
