Women’s Rights Activist Shot Dead In Afghanistan

In the latest update from Afghanistan, a 29-year-old women’s rights activist and lecturer of economics has been shot dead in northern Afghanistan. The incident appears to be the first known death of a women’s rights defender since the Taliban took over the country almost three months ago.

Taliban Security Forces Got In Two Unidentified Women

The dead women’s rights activist has been identified as Frozan Safi. She was identified in a morgue in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif after she was reported missing on October 20. Her sister spoke to the media and informed them that they were able to recognise her by clothes as the bullets had destroyed her face.

Rita informed that the bullet wounds were all over Safi’s face and too many to count. She noted that the bullet wounds were on her head, kidneys, chest, heart, and legs. Reportedly, her engagement ring and bag had already been taken.

As per the reports, the Taliban security forces brought in two bodies of unidentified women who were shot dead. They got them to the Balkh provincial hospital. They were found alongside the bodies of two men in a house in Mazar-i-Sharif. Zabihullah Noorani, the Taliban’s director for information and cultural affairs in Balkh province suggested that they could have been victims of personal feud.

“Police are investigating the case,” he added.

Not A Day Passes By Without Women’s Rights Shrinking

Reports suggest that the deaths underscore the pervasive fear within the Taliban-controlled Afghanistan where reprisal killings are being linked to the previous government which had developed an atmosphere of confusion.

Furthermore, since mid-August, women have held regular protests against the Taliban demanding that their rights should be restored and protected.

As per the reports, there hasn’t been day gone by where the women’s rights have been shrinking further.
