Worldwide COVID-19 Cases Surpass 70mn Mark: Johns Hopkins

Washington: In yet another unfortunate milestone, the total number of worldwide COVID-19 cases has surpassed the 70 million mark, while the deaths have increased to more than 1.59 million, as per the Johns Hopkins University.

In its most recent update on Saturday, the University’s Centre for Systems Science and Engineering CSSE uncovered that the current worldwide caseload and death toll remained at 70,131,911 and 1,592,486, respectively.

As indicated by the CSSE, the US is the most badly hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 15,834,965 and 294,874, respectively.

American authorities cautioned a spike in death was coming after millions traveled around the country for the Thanksgiving occasion in the previous month, ignoring requests to remain at home to slow the spread of the infection.

The country had reported a total number of 289,188 COVID deaths, up by 3,071 in 24 hours. It additionally recorded almost 220,481 new cases.

California, where some 33 million individuals were back under lockdown this week, saw more than 30,000 cases on Wednesday – the highest 24-hour count in a US state, as indicated by the COVID Tracking Project.

The number of virus patients hospitalized in the US keeps on breaking records, reaching 106,000 on Wednesday.
