Worried citizens jolted as another round of rain lashed the city

As several colonies yet to overcome the aftermath of Wednesday’s fury, the Thursday showers from 5.30 pm to 6.20 pm put them on their toes as the majority of citizens are not anticipated or prepared for another round of showers before closing the account this season.

Barely two hours of incessant showers on Wednesday night leaves behind a trail of destruction in several areas in the city especially in low lying areas of the old city which is known for its tight grain housing system. The rain that lashed the city for almost two hours relentlessly spares no quarter of the society from its fury.

While the rain hit hard the roads away from habitations prompting the flabbergasted passengers to run for shelter here and there, it also exploded its fury on the residents of low lying areas who were forced to bear the brunt of the horrid nature the whole night and even next day.

For families living in poorly built houses with leakage roofs, the Wednesday night comes as a double whammy where they were forced to be run off their feet whole night dealing with the stormwater gushing into their houses while out of the blue power break turned them more anxious and agitated.

Though the water clogging at roads and thoroughfares was gradually residing into the ground – perhaps not in all the area, the suffering of residents were not yet over as several localities were seen coping-up with stormwater due to no facility of sewerage lines and drains that forced them to take refuge into their houses till the rescue comes from the GHMC. However, not all the areas are as lucky as the one which has a proper drainage system with sufficient civic arrangements.

On Wednesday, the rain that lashed the city from 6.30 pm and ended up at 8.20 pm turned several roads and areas into ponds due to lack of a proper way out for the stormwater. Major thoroughfares and junctions especially in Abids, Kothi, Reti Bowli, Mehdipatnam, Toli Chowki, Bahadurpura, Tadban, Attapur, Hyderaguda, Shahali Banda, Madina Circle, Puranapul, Jumeraat Bazar Road, Pardiwada, Begum Bazar, Shivrampally, Rajendranagar, Doodh Bowli, Hussaini Alam besides all the roads and colonies in low lying areas as well as located close to water bodies were turned into streams in a span of few minutes.
