KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), criticised the Indian government for its treatment of wrestlers during their protest in New Delhi. KTR questioned the authorities on Twitter, wondering why the wrestlers had to be treated in this manner. He emphasized that these wrestlers are champions who have brought pride to the country on the international scene and deserve support and respect.
KTR’s reaction was spurred by video footage uploaded by wrestler Sakshi Malik, which showed police officers pulling the wrestler’s. The wrestlers were seized by police when they attempted to march towards the new Parliament during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration.
Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia were among those protesting the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexually abusing female wrestlers, including a minor. Brij Bhushan Singh is a BJP Member of Parliament representing Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh. Wrestlers and supporters planned to organise a ‘Mahila Mahapanchayat’ near the new Parliament building to voice their demands.
