11 babies rescued from interstate child trafficking racket

According to a complaint lodged by Manyam Sai Kumar (30), the Medipally police successfully rescued a baby girl along with three accused individuals on May 22. Subsequently, three of the eleven accused were arrested. Following interrogation, the police officials were able to rescue 11 babies on Monday.

The arrested individuals were identified as A1) Shobarani, residing in Peerzadiguda, Medipally, A2) Hemalatha, also known as Swapna, residing in Chengicherla, Medipally, and A3) Shaik Saleem, residing in Peerzadiguda, Medipally. The remaining accused, including Kiran, Preethi, and Kannaiah, were found to be absconding. A case was filed at the Medipally police station under Cr no. 579/2024, U/S 370, 372, 373 r/w 34 IPC, Sec 81.87, 88 JJ Act-2015.

As per the confession of accused Shobarani, the culprits used to procure babies from Kiran and Preethi in Delhi, and Kannaiah in Pune. In total, 50 babies were supplied to the accused individuals, who then handed them over to their agents. These agents would then sell the babies to individuals in need across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at varying prices ranging from Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 5,50,000 per baby, with the help of mediators. The accused individuals received profits ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000 for each baby sold.

So far, 11 babies have been rescued from the accused individuals with the coordination of the CWC, two of whom have been sent to Shishuvihar for safe custody. The operation was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Tarun Joshi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, P.V. Padmaja, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri Zone, Rachakonda, and under the supervision of S. Chakrapani, ACP Malkajgiri Division.

The detection of the case involved a team comprising R. Govinda Reddy, SHO Medipally, B. Prabhakar Reddy, SIP, A. Narsing Rao, SIP, S. Anil Kumar, SIP, and the team of PS Medipally.
