Hyderabad: The 12 Congress MLAs, who recently defected to the ruling TRS party, on Wednesday asserted that their collective decision to merge the CLP into the TRSLP was totally Constitutional.
Speaking to mediapersons in Telangana Bhavan here today, MLA Rega Kantha Rao said all of them differed with the Congress policies and fed up with the infighting in the party and decided to merge their group into the TRS for the sake of development of their respective constituencies and welfare of their constituents. As there was no future for the Congress in the State with internecine fighting and lack of able leadership, they were constrained to merge their legislature party into the TRS.
They also said they would file defamation case against the Congress leadership for trying to malign the image of the TRS party and the government besides coming in the way of development. Atram Sakku, GV Ramana Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, D Sudhir Reddy and others said they have defected to the ruling party as per democratic norms for development. “Fed up with group politics and internal squabbles, we joined the TRS on June 6 and sought merger as per Constitutional norms. With the concurrence of our constituents, we took the decision and yet to take the TRS shawls. There was no meaning in what the Congress was making protests against the defection”, they said.
“We have right to defect and did so only followed by constitutional process and nothing wrong in it”, the leaders claimed. Speaker P Srinivas Reddy has recently merged 12-member team of legislators from the Congress by two thirds majority. The Congress has lost its faith among people, who rejected them in local body polls and it has lost Opposition status, they said. The people rejected the TPCC leadership, who are now making a hue and cry of no use, they deplored. If the Congress failed to stop false allegations and campaign against us, we will file defamation cases against them”, they warned. (NSS)
