Hyderabad: Even as Election Commission has started the process for elections in Telangana and all political parties are gearing up for the some others are forging grand alliances a petition has been filed in apex court of India against the elections and sought steps to stall the election process.
P Shashank Reddy of Siddipet has moved Supreme Court and sought steps to ensure that the polls are conducted in May 2019 and continue Governor Rule till then. He complained to the court against the TRS boss and caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for abruptly dissolving the Assembly and going in for early polls by violation of constitution norms. He cited that about 20 lakh of youths will lose their voting chance if the early polls are held in Telangana.
The petitioner found fault by saying that it is meaningless for CM to inform that he is going in for early polls only after talking to the EC. There is no situation of emergency or political crisis as the ruling party has complete majority he said. Reddy also said that the dissolution of the Assembly is for political gain. The move by the ruling party is violation of constitutional right envisaged to provide voting right to the youth of the state. He also complained that KCR himself stated that the polls will be held in November and he will become Chief Minister again.
The EC has to decide and declare the schedule of the elections and KCR has no business in this regard. Since the early polls will deprive voting chance for about 20 lakhs of youth the court has to direct to stall the same and ask for Governor rule in Telangana. If the elections are held in May 2019 the youth will not their chance to participate in the voting Shashank Reddy said. (NSS)
