21-Year-Old Ends Life After Father Refuses to Buy Him BMW in Siddipet

In a deeply distressing incident, a 21-year-old youth from Chatlapalle village in Jagdevpur mandal ended his life after his father declined to fulfill his demand for a BMW car. The young man, identified as Johnny, consumed pesticide at home after a heated argument over the luxury car. He died during treatment late Saturday night, police said.

According to reports, Johnny had been persistently asking his father, Bomma Kanakaiah, a farmer with just two acres of land, to buy him a BMW. Despite financial constraints, Kanakaiah tried to reason with his son, offering to buy him a more affordable Swift Dzire instead. However, Johnny, unwilling to accept the refusal, took the drastic step in a moment of emotional distress.

The family rushed him to a nearby hospital immediately after he ingested the pesticide, but doctors were unable to save him. A case has been registered, and police have begun investigating the matter.

This tragic case underscores a troubling trend among today’s youth, where suicides are increasingly being reported over seemingly trivial or impulsive reasons — from parental scolding, academic failures, to not receiving desired material goods like smartphones or vehicles.

Mental health experts and social commentators warn that rising exposure to social media, peer comparisons, unrealistic expectations, and lack of emotional resilience are contributing to such incidents. The obsession with luxury and comfort, especially without a corresponding willingness to work for it, appears to be taking a psychological toll on young minds.

Parents and educators are being urged to foster open dialogue, mental health awareness, and coping mechanisms in children and teenagers. The growing gap between aspirations and realities needs sensitive handling, as incidents like Johnny’s point to a larger social crisis of unmet expectations and fragile emotional strength.
