Approximately 300 tourists found themselves stranded near the South Portal of the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, following heavy snowfall.
The snow, marking an end to a nearly two-month dry spell, brought relief to farmers and hoteliers in the region.
Areas including upper Shimla, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, and Kullu experienced their first snow of the season. The Himachal Pradesh Police successfully rescued the stranded tourists near the South Portal of the Atal tunnel after the heavy snowfall on Tuesday evening.

Sakshi Verma, the Superintendent of Police of Kullu, explained that around 300 individuals were stuck due to the snowfall while returning to the Sissu side via the north portal of the tunnel. The police, along with local administration, deployed rescue vehicles to bring them down to safety. District administration officials, including DSPs and others, collaborated on the rescue operation
