On December 23, despite efforts to preserve him, a 40-day-old child from the Nagarkurnool area died from a rat bite. The tragic occurrence occurred when the baby’s mother temporarily left him unattended for a shower, during which time a rat bit the infant on the nose, causing significant bleeding.
The baby’s distraught parents hurried him to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad, where he was given an Artificial Manual Breathing Unit (AMBU) while on the way.
Despite the medical team’s best efforts, the baby’s oxygen levels dropped below 50%, and he was unable to be saved.
The Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital, Dr. T Usha Rani, expressed sincere regret over the event, emphasizing the difficulties experienced in such critical situations.
The tragedy serves as a clear reminder of the importance of maintaining monitoring and safety precautions, particularly when caring for newborns and young children. The entire community mourns the loss of this tiny life, and health officials emphasize the need of ensuring safe surroundings for infants in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
