Hyderabad: Chairman All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe refuted the notion that only 25% graduates from technical institutions are employable. Almost 50% are employable, he claimed. However, we need to further improve the ratio, he added.
Prof. Sahasrabudhe, expressed these views today at Maulana Azad National Urdu University while delivering a lecture-cum-interactive session with MANUU Students & faculty of Technical programmes. The theme of his lecture was’Relevance of Quality and Reforms in Technical Institutions’.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor presided over the function.
The responsibility to make the students employable is collective one; all the stake holders including the faculty, administration and regulators like AICTE, UGC, Government and society have their own role in this, said Prof. Sahasrabudhe.
Earlier, Prof. Sahasrabudhe laid the Foundation Stone of the new building for the School of Computer Science and Information Technology in the campus. Elaborating the role of AICTE in the present day scenario, he claimed that the AICTE has transformed its role from a Regulator to a Facilitator of Technical Education in the country. Affordability, Autonomy and Accountability are the three key parameters for higher education set by the Hon’ble HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar. Stressing the need to maintain quality education, he gave the details of the initiatives taken by AICTE with regard to curriculum, teacher certification programme, student induction programme and internship. He also stressed the need to establish an Innovation Cell in each of the technical institution to promote out of box thinking among the students. The technical institutions should produce job providers instead of job seekers, he opined.
Describing the demographic dividend of young Indian population as the biggest resource, he cautioned against keeping them untrained. Access, equity and quality have been the corner stone of our higher education policy.
He appreciated the rapid growth undertaken by a nascent university like MANUU within two decades. MANUU could become one of the best institutions of higher learning in the days to come not only at national level but globally, he predicted. Prof. Sahasrabudhe also answered the queries by the students and the faculty.
Dr. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz in his presidential address thanked Prof. Sahasrabudhe for paying a visit to MANUU and interacting with the students. Hard work and integrity are the pre-requisites for the success, he said giving the example of Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe.
Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Pro Vice-Chancellor was also present. Dr. M A Sikandar, Registrar conducted the proceedings.
