In a bizarre and deeply unsettling incident, a 55-year-old man from Rampur district has allegedly married a 22-year-old woman who was previously engaged to his 17-year-old son, leaving the entire family shocked and devastated, according to local officials.
The incident took place in Bansnagali village, but came to public attention on Thursday following complaints from the man’s family. The man, identified as Shakeel, is a father of six and a grandfather of three.
According to his wife Shabana, Shakeel had been regularly communicating with Ayesha (name changed), a young woman from a nearby village. Their connection reportedly began after the family hosted their daughter’s wedding last month.

Shabana revealed that when questioned about his frequent interaction with Ayesha, Shakeel initially said he was arranging her marriage to their teenage son, Aman (name changed). The family had concerns over the match, citing Aman’s young age and financial instability, but Shabana alleged that Shakeel used threats and even physical aggression to force the engagement.
However, Aman became suspicious of his father’s intentions after observing regular phone calls between the two. “One day I checked his phone and found objectionable content involving him,” Aman claimed. Disturbed by what he saw, the teenager refused to go ahead with the wedding.
Despite the broken engagement, Shakeel left for Delhi last week under the pretense of work. The family later learned that he had in fact married Ayesha. The revelation has not only embarrassed the family but also caused emotional distress, especially for Aman.
Authorities are reportedly aware of the matter, though no official police complaint has been filed yet. The village has been abuzz with discussions, with many expressing disbelief at the father’s actions.
The incident raises troubling questions about parental responsibility, emotional manipulation, and the boundaries of social conduct in rural communities.
