Aam Aadmi Party, the ruling party in the National Capital Territory of Delhi has announced that they will be protesting at the Jantar Mantar on Wednesday. The protest is against the Central Government’s move to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill-2021.
AAP Calls Out Centre Against “Unconditional And Undemocratic” Move
The Aam Aadmi Party took to Twitter to inform the public that they will be holding a “massive” protest against the Central Government to amend the GNCTD Act. They Senior AAP MLA and the chief spokesperson Saurav Bharadwaj called the Centre’s move as “unconditional and undemocratic”. He further accused the government of derailing the powers of the elected government at the national capital.

He said that they will protest inside and outside the Parliament against the bill. Saurav further added that AAP will “expose” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s “hidden agenda” behind the bill. He claimed that the new amendment in the GNCTD Act is aimed to give more powers to the Lieutenant Governor.
Bharadwaj said that if the bill passes in the parliament, the Delhi government will have to wait for the Lieutenant’s permission to approve for all development issues.
What is the GNCTD Act?
The Centre on Monday tabled the new Bill in the Lok Sabha. The bill is to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act 1991. This bill is aimed at providing better defining roles to the Council of Ministers and the Lieutenant Governor in Delhi.

The bill is aimed to give more discretionary powers to L-G even in the matters of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi. The LG will further be empowered to make the laws in the region.
Soon after the Centre’s move, the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia accused the BJP-led Centre government of attempting to run the Delhi government via L-G.
