Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar today said special arrangements have been made for physically challenged persons to cast their votes in a hassle-free manner in the December 7 polls for the State Assembly.
The EC has appointed Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda as a special ambassador for Mahabubnagar district for the polls to encourage rise in polling ratio, he said. “Already we have appointed noted personalities such as Tennis Star Sania Mirza, Star Cricketer VVS Lakshman, Lyricist Goreti Venkanna and Badminton Guru Pullela Gopichand as the poll ambassadors, he added.
Talking to mediapersons here today, the CEO said the Election Commission was keen on providing required facilities for smooth conduct of the polls and the disabled get wheel chairs and ramp facility. As part of the poll arrangement, some 10,000 to 15,000 wheel-chairs will be arranged at various polling stations in several segments besides separate polling stations for the women at some places. To encourage the physically challenged voters to exercise their franchise, the EC has set up some State icons and there are some icons at district level too, Rajat Kumar said. “We have received 1,457 complaints through C vigil app and ambassadors will create awareness among the people for the voting, he added.
A separate toll free number 1950 was set up for physically challeged voters, the CEO said.
