Advocates’ Plea for Inclusive Representation in Key Legal Roles in telangana court’s

The All India Advocates Welfare Association recently convened a press conference to address the underrepresentation of Muslim advocates in key judicial positions, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and diverse legal fraternity.

The association pointed out that despite having a significant Muslim population in India, historical neglect has led to a lack of appointments of Muslim advocates as Advocate General, Additional Advocate General, or Public Prosecutors in the High Court, especially in Telangana. The association expressed concern over the non-inclusive trend and urged the current government to rectify the situation by considering appointments based on the percentage of the population.

Highlighting the historical context, the association emphasized that past governments have not appointed learned Muslim advocates as legal representatives for the state, contributing to a lack of diversity in the judiciary. They called on the current government, elected on promises to minority communities, to ensure that appointments reflect a commitment to inclusivity.

The press conference stressed the importance of appointing Muslim advocates to key positions such as Advocate General, Additional Advocate General, and Public Prosecutor in the High Court. The association noted that present appointments seemingly favor the majority community, urging the government to consider seniority and expertise, especially when highly qualified Muslim advocates are available.

The lack of representation of Muslim advocates in critical legal positions not only raises concerns about equity but also undermines the diversity required in the legal system. The association called for immediate action to address this issue, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling promises made before elections and creating a judiciary that reflects the pluralistic nature of society.

In conclusion, the association urged the government to ensure fair representation of Muslim advocates in various legal roles, from government pleaders to public prosecutors, in both the High Court and lower courts. They emphasized that fostering an inclusive and diverse judiciary is crucial for upholding the principles of equality and building public trust in the administration of justice.
