Afghan national team footballer one of those who fell to death from US plane

The harrowing videos showing falling men midair from the US carrier plane in Afghanistan also had a young Afghan footballer.

The youngster, who played for the country in the national youth team, was clinging on to the aircraft along with dozens of other Afghan citizens who were desperate to flee from the land following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan on Sunday.

A sports federation told on Thursday that he fell off the plane and died.

The news was confirmed by the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan, a government institution that worked with sporting groups.

The group posted the unfortunate event’s statement on Facebook. “Anwari, like thousands of Afghan youths, wanted to leave the country but fell off a US plane and died,” the statement read.

Zaki Anwari, the victim, like thousands of his other fellow citizens had rushed to the airport to find alternative transportation facilities to get out of Afghanistan amid the mayhem caused by former President Ghani escaping the country and leaving Afghans to fend for themselves against the Taliban.

Videos went viral on social media platforms that showed several people running alongside a US Air Force C-17 plane, which was in the country to evacuate its embassy staff and US citizens, as it was preparing to take off. People could be seen hanging onto the wing of the plane and any other part they could get a hold of.

Recordings of people falling to death from the aircraft while it was several metres high in the air followed on all platforms.

As per the US military, their dismantled dead bodies were found later in a wheel well. They added that the army was probing the deaths related to the C-17 aircraft.

Speaking about the tense situation the US military was facing at the moment, US Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said, “Before the aircrew could offload the cargo, the aircraft was surrounded by hundreds of Afghan civilians. Faced with a rapidly deteriorating security situation around the aircraft, the C-17 crew decided to depart the airfield as quickly as possible.”

Joe Biden, President of the United States, has been on the receiving end of global criticism and backlash for reportedly staying unaware and uneducated of the Taliban’s progressing moves and sudden turn of events in Afghanistan with his orders of withdrawing US troops from the country at a time when the armed group was preparing for their takeover.

People are trying to flee the country reminiscing the strict rule of the Taliban during the era they ruled in Afghanistan where music was banned, women weren’t permitted to get out of their homes, and other such restrictions were imposed.
