Hyderabad: The death of a 45-year old patient, Shameena Begum, who was admitted for treatment in Global Hospital at Lakdi-ka-pul here, has caused commotion when her relatives resorted to agitation and damaged some glass panes and furniture of the Hospital today, alleging that negligence of Doctors was responsible for her death.
According to police, who reached the spot, the patient was admitted to the Hospital on December 18, with a history of Intestitial Lung Disease & Lung Infection. Her attendants have paid a total amount of Rs. 205000 so far, following the demands of the Hospital authorities, on different days.
The Doctors stated that, while giving treatment to the patient, Swine-flu report came as positive, as such they have started treatment for both. On December 24, the combination of swine flu and Interstitial lung disease made it even worse . And the patient didn’t respond to the treatment and at around 08:45pm, the patient had a cardiac arrest, irrespective of their best efforts. Immediately duty doctors informed above problem to patient’s son and simultaneously doctors has started CPR to patient.
Soon after hearing about the Cardiac arrest and noticing the CPR procedure in the night, patient’s two sons and some other persons started shouting loudly and started vandalising the hospital property. Also, they have beaten security staff and on duty Manager. On receipt of information, police rushed to the hospital, and found deceased sons along with some other members vandalising the chairs, glasses, furniture’s etc., in the Hospital by shouting loudly. Police stopped them from damaging the other items in the Hospital by taking the deceased’s sons into custody and shifted the dead body of deceased Shameem Begum to Gandhi Hospital for preservation. Finally, the situation was brought under control by police.
Today, the deceased’s son Mir Mohiuddin Ali Khan has given a written complaint against the Management and Doctors of Global Hospital for negligence in treatment, upon which a case was registered at PS Saifabad. Mohammed Abdul Gani, Chief Security officer of Global Hospital has also given a complaint against the accused persons who vandalised their hospital property. Accordingly a case was registered against the accused. (NSS)
