AI-Powered Robot to Assist Haj Pilgrims at Grand Mosque in Makkah

As millions of Muslims from around the globe prepare to embark on the sacred pilgrimage of Haj, a new high-tech assistant is being introduced at the Grand Mosque in Makkah to enhance the spiritual journey for worshippers.

On Wednesday, the Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque unveiled the latest version of the AI-powered Manarat Al-Haramain Robot, designed to help pilgrims by blending Islamic tradition with cutting-edge technology.

The robot serves as an innovative reference point for religious inquiries, allowing pilgrims to connect directly with muftis through video calls to receive answers to their religious questions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The updated version features software and external designs inspired by traditional Islamic motifs and architecture of the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah. The presidency said the robot is a symbol of “authenticity, modernity, and innovation” and aims to improve the ease of access to spiritual guidance and information during the pilgrimage.

The initiative is part of the Kingdom’s broader digital transformation efforts to enhance the Haj experience, ensuring that modern tools can serve pilgrims without compromising the sacred atmosphere.

Haj 1446 AH (2025 AD) is scheduled to begin on June 4 and end on June 9, with pilgrims already arriving in Saudi Arabia to fulfill the once-in-a-lifetime religious obligation.

The robot is stationed at various points in the Grand Mosque to assist pilgrims with queries, guidance, and religious support, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to innovation in the service of Islam.
