Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to reshape industries by driving the creation of new technologies and transforming the nature of work, according to Ashok Krish, Global Head of AI at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). In a recent interview with PTI, Krish emphasized that AI should be viewed as a catalyst for skill transformation rather than a threat to jobs.
Krish explained that companies seeing AI as more than just an IT project are the ones making true strides in high-value AI implementations. For these organizations, AI is not just about technological advancements but also about board-level transformation that aligns with broader business goals.
“This is not just a technological shift; it’s a cultural transformation. AI demands a change in how people work and how organizations implement these technologies,” Krish said. He pointed out that the last three decades have witnessed multiple waves of disruptive technologies — from mainframes and the internet to e-commerce, digital, and cloud technologies. Each of these shifts sparked fears, sometimes leading to “scaremongering” about job losses and the future of work.

However, Krish believes that AI is not a unique or unprecedented threat. He views it as the next natural evolution in technology. “AI simplifies the entire process, leading to the creation of more technology,” he added. “So, it’s wrong to look at AI through the lens of job loss. Instead, it’s an opportunity to transform skills and empower people to adapt to this evolving landscape.”
On the topic of how geopolitical and macroeconomic upheavals might affect AI adoption, Krish was optimistic. He acknowledged that economic cycles of ups and downs are nothing new but stated that AI is unique in its self-reinforcing nature. Unlike previous disruptive technologies, AI’s progress drives its own acceleration. “What happens with AI is that its progress exponentially improves further progress in AI. It is inherently self-referential,” he said.
Krish’s remarks highlight the growing importance of AI as a key driver of future technological advancements, stressing that it should be embraced as a tool for growth, learning, and skills development rather than feared as a disruptor of employment. As AI continues to evolve, it promises to transform industries and reshape the global workforce, offering new opportunities for innovation and skill development in the years to come.
