AIADMK Announces Exit from NDA, Sets Sights on 2024 Lok Sabha Polls

The AIADMK, in a significant move, declared its departure from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and revealed plans to lead a separate coalition for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The decision was reached during a high-level meeting presided over by party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai.

In a press briefing outlining the discussions, former Minister and senior leader K P Munusamy stated that the party had unanimously decided to part ways with the NDA and collaborate with like-minded parties in the forthcoming elections. The resolution, though not naming specific individuals, expressed displeasure with recent actions by the BJP’s state leadership, including criticism of Dravidian icons, the late CN Annadurai, and late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The rift between the two erstwhile allies had been exacerbated by comments made by BJP state president K Annamalai regarding Annadurai. The AIADMK meeting witnessed the participation of top party officials, district secretaries, as well as MLAs and MPs.
