Hyderabad-based All India Majlis Itehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has opened its account in the municipal elections held in the state. The party has won a Councilor seat in the Hindupur Municipality of the district.
The party candidate Jigini won from the 16th ward of the municipality by defeating his rival by 123 votes. The party has focussed on the Rayalaseema region in the just concluded elections. It did not win in any part of the state except the Hindupur municipality. The party which had confined itself to some districts like Kurnool, contested in various districts of the state. It also contested in Vijayawada and Kurnool corporations this time. The party candidates have contested from 50 and 54 divisions of Vijaywada Municipal Corporation in the recent elections.

The MIM has also fielded its candidates in Produtoor of Kadapa district, Adoni of Kurnool district besides Hindupur. However, the rivals of the party are saying that the Hyderabad-based party contested in the elections in order to fulfill the promise made by its president Asaduddin Owaisi to TDP National president Nara Chandra Babu Naidu during the last general elections. to give a return gift.
Owaisi promised Naidu that he would give a return gift to the TDP in the state. The political analysts are saying that Owaisi had finally delivered his return gift by fielding his party’s candidates in the state with an objective to dent the victory prospects of the TDP. They are saying that the MIM had fielded its candidate’s places where the TDP gave a tough fight to the ruling YSRCP.
