Hyderabad: The Chief Electoral Officer today stated the arrangements for the polls are in full swing in the state of Telangana. The CEO spoke to press persons at Secretariat here and said that the preparation for the polls in Telangana is better than other states.
The EC plans to conduct the polls as per schedule which is due to be announced after its team visit to the state, he said. Referring to the deletion and additions of the voters from the electoral list, he said that they are scrutinizing the details for veracity and ensure that the genuine and eligible voters got their chance for voting. As of now, we have received 19.5 lakh applications online for the enrolment, of which 1.5 lakh were rejected for not complying with the stipulated norms of the Election Commission, he said.
Rajat Kumar said that about 4.16 lakh physically handicapped persons are to exercise their franchise. He stated that the preparation for the Assembly elections is going on in a swift move as the district collectors and other officials are actively involved in the requisite arrangements.
The EC is taking all special steps for providing smooth way for the physically challenged to cast their votes during the polls. To ensure law and order in a perfect manner, the EC also appointed an additional DGP. The EC is happy about the election returning officers engaged for the elections, he said. To avoid any sort of inconvenience, we have also taken steps to put in place additional stocks of EVMs and VVPATs in about 100 polling booths. Rajat Kumar maintained that if the existing EVMs and VVPATs go defunct the additional stocks will be used.(NSS)
