Amberpet Flyover Set for Maha Shivaratri Inauguration Amid Delays

After multiple delays, Hyderabad’s newly constructed Amberpet flyover is slated to be inaugurated on Maha Shivaratri, February 26, Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy announced. The flyover, designed to ease traffic congestion and improve the commute for vehicles entering the city from Warangal Highway, has faced setbacks primarily due to the state government’s sluggish land acquisition process.

During an inspection of the flyover on Tuesday, February 25, alongside officials, Minister Reddy revealed plans for additional infrastructure enhancements. “Greenery and separate roads will be developed beneath the flyover,” he noted while reviewing the section between Golnaka Church and Vani Photo Studio in Amberpet. He emphasized that these developments would not only enhance the aesthetics of the flyover but also contribute to smoother traffic management.

The four-lane flyover stretches over 1.5 km and is expected to reduce travel times and improve traffic flow in Hyderabad significantly. The project, undertaken by the National Highways and Road Development Department, is estimated to cost Rs 335 crores. It begins near Golnaka and terminates at Purnodaya Colony, close to the MCH Quarters.

Minister Reddy also called on the state government to expedite the land acquisition process for five other flyover projects, asserting that ensuring timely completion of such projects remains the sole responsibility of the state.

Earlier, GHMC Commissioner Ilambarthi inspected the incomplete land acquisition process and directed officials from National Highways, Roads, and Buildings to accelerate work on the Amberpet flyover.

Although the project was initiated in 2018 and construction started only in 2021, the original completion target of 2023 was missed. With the inauguration now set for this year, the flyover is poised to mark a significant milestone in Hyderabad’s infrastructure development.
