Arepally Women Protest Demolition of Bus Shelter, Demand Immediate Reconstruction

In a determined display of civic activism, women from Arepally village in Shayampet mandal staged a protest on Wednesday by blocking a TSRTC bus, demanding the urgent construction of a new bus shelter. The agitation comes in the wake of the demolition of the old shelter as part of road widening and strengthening works initiated by the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).

Arepally, situated along the crucial National Highway 563 in Warangal district, serves as a connecting point to important towns like Parkal, Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Eturnagaram, and even extends connectivity towards Chhattisgarh. Despite its strategic importance, the village has been grappling with poor transportation infrastructure ever since the removal of the old bus stand.

Protesters highlighted how the absence of a bus shelter has resulted in irregular halts by TSRTC buses, severely affecting daily commuters, especially students and workers. Hundreds of students from Arepally travel to educational institutions in Warangal and Hanamkonda and now face harsh weather conditions and long waits at the roadside.

The protest, led primarily by women, took place on the main road and caused significant traffic disruption on NH563 for over an hour. Police intervened to manage the situation and attempted to persuade the crowd to disperse. However, the protestors remained firm in their demand, warning of intensified agitation if the authorities fail to respond. So far, there has been no official reaction from either GWMC or TSRTC regarding the reconstruction of the bus shelter.
