Awadh Assam Express Hits Railway Trolley Near Katihar: One Dead, Three Injured

In a tragic incident, the Awadh Assam Express (Train No. 15910) collided with a railway inspection trolley near Maharani village, resulting in the death of one railway employee and serious injuries to three others.

The accident took place on Friday morning in the Sonpur Rail Division, between Kadhagola and Semapur stations on the Katihar–Barauni rail section. The train, which was traveling on the down line from Barauni to Katihar, struck the trolley from behind while it was on the same track.

According to initial reports, four railway workers were onboard the trolley at the time of the incident, conducting a routine inspection of the track. The sudden arrival of the Awadh Assam Express gave them little time to react, resulting in a fatal collision.

One trolleyman died on the spot, while three others sustained critical injuries. They were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The identities of the victims have not been publicly released yet.

Following the accident, the Awadh Assam Express was halted for some time near the accident site. The damaged railway trolley was removed from the track to restore normal operations. The train was later cleared to proceed on its scheduled route.

Railway officials have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine how the collision occurred, especially when workers were supposed to be engaged in a track inspection. Authorities are also examining whether proper safety protocols and communications were followed prior to the movement of the train on the same line.

This accident has raised fresh concerns over track safety and worker protection on active railway lines. More details are awaited as the investigation continues.
