The BJP has found itself in hot water for staying away from the Telangana Legislative Assembly when it passed a resolution calling for the new Parliament building to be named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
On Wednesday, Dalit activists protested against the BJP for not expressing its position in the Telangana Assembly over the resolution.
As its member was present in the Assembly when the resolution was moved and passed, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) criticized the BJP.
In the Assembly, Raghunandan Rao wasn’t present, while Eatala Rajender was suspended for inappropriate remarks against the Speaker. Raja Singh, the third MLA of the BJP, is currently in jail.
State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar said on Wednesday that he has forwarded the request for naming the new Parliament building after Ambedkar to the Union government.
Based on representations from balladeer Gaddar, Sanjay has forwarded the request to name the Central Vista after Ambedkar.
Following Telangana Legislature’s unanimous resolution requesting the Centre to name the new Parliament building after Ambedkar, the BJP leader issued a tweet calling for the building to be named after him.
The TRS government had moved the resolution after Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka had made a request to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The chief minister said that Ambedkar is the best candidate to be named after the new Parliament building.
In the meantime, TRS working president K.T Rama Rao hoped that the BJP-led NDA government would positively respond to the request.
On Tuesday, Gaddar met CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka and MLAs D. Sreedhar Babu and Seethakka and thanked Congress for passing the resolution.
Gaddar stated that Vikramarka was instrumental in persuading the chief minister to pass the resolution. He stated that similar resolutions should be passed in all of the country’s Assemblies.
