Bandi Sanjay Kumar, a bJP MP, has been dismissed as the party’s Telangana unit president, which has upset him, especially given the forthcoming Assembly elections. Sanjay was taken aback by the decision, as BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh had said just a few days before that there would be no change in leadership.
Sanjay was summoned to Delhi on Tuesday, where he was informed of the decision by party president J.P. Nadda, which devastated him because he had been confident about leading the party in the elections.
Top officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, praised Sanjay’s efforts to boost the party in the state. Nadda indicated that the leadership transition was motivated by the needs of the party. The discussion at Nadda’s office lasted almost two hours and was attended by general secretaries Tarun Chugh and Sunil Bansal. Sanjay, who was unhappy by the decision, departed the party offices via a different exit, avoiding the reporters who had gathered to hear his reaction.
Shortly after, the party declared that Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy would be the new state party president, while BJP MLA Eatala Rajender, who had asked for Sanjay’s dismissal, was named head of the election management committee. Sanjay took to Twitter to officially announce his resignation as BJP state president, thanking the Prime Minister, Amit Shah, Nadda, and other leaders for presenting him, an ordinary party worker, with a big opportunity to serve as Telangana’s president.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of Telangana for their assistance during his Praja Sangram Yatra. Sanjay expressed newfound zest for working under Kishan Reddy’s supervision. In a tweet, he congratulated Kishan Reddy and Rajender, expressing his hope that the party will become stronger under their experienced leadership and work hard to bring the BJP to power in Telangana.
Sanjay’s time as state BJP president had legally ended in March of this year, but he continued in the job with the agreement of the central leadership, and it was assumed that he would head the party in the approaching elections. Sanjay’s ouster has startled his fans within the party, with some viewing it as an unnecessary choice in an election year. M. Vijayashanti, an actress and former MP, expressed grief over Sanjay’s dismissal and praised his efforts to the party in the state.
She hoped that the party’s central leadership would elevate him and urged them to consider the views of his supporters before making the appropriate decision. M. Nageswara Rao, the head of the BJP’s Nalgonda town unit, resigned in response to Sanjay’s ouster, and a Sanjay supporter attempted suicide in Khammam district, showing dissatisfaction among his supporters.
