A case was filed against BJP MLA T Raja Singh of Goshamahal, who was accused of outraging religious beliefs through defamatory remarks. The Kanchanbagh police station received a complaint against the legislator after a video of him making derogatory and provocative comments against a prominent religious leader went viral on social media.
IPC Section 295A was invoked in this case. Several weeks ago, the legislator in a meeting made negative remarks about the Ajmer shrine, triggering sharp reactions from various quarters.
The Sufi organization filed a complaint with Delhi’s South Zone District Police Bureau regarding the defamatory remarks made by BJP legislator T Raja Singh about Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty.
A delegation of followers of Sufi Saint Hazrath Khwaja Moinuddin aka Ghareeb Nawaz of Ajmer Rajasthan filed a petition alleging Raja Singh, the BJP MLA for Goshamahal, deliberately hurt their sentiments.
Even though millions of people from all faiths and religions visit the shrine of the saint, the legislator’s irresponsible statement should be taken seriously.
According to them, the MLA used highly objectionable and offensive words toward the pious person, which promoted animosity between groups and communities in the Old City and may cause law and order problems.
Accordingly, a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) should be registered against Raja Singh for his insulting and threatening statements. Earlier this month, Raja Singh made an alleged statement against a Sufi Saint in Ajmer Rajasthan at a public meeting, causing outrage on social media. ANI quoted the cleric as saying, “BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma insulted Islam, while Naveen Jindal hurt Muslims’ religious sentiments by hurting their sentiments.”
As a result of the matter being brought to the BJP government’s attention, Nupur Sharma was suspended and Jindal was expelled today. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserve our gratitude for that.
