BJP’s Ramchander Rao Demands Demolition of Owaisi’s Lakebed College

Newly appointed Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of showing preferential treatment to a college reportedly built by AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on the bed of Salkam lake. He demanded the immediate demolition of the structure, warning that BJP cadres would “take action” if the government failed to intervene.

Rao questioned the double standards of the government, highlighting how poor families living in the Musi River catchment area—many of whom had purchased land legally and obtained required approvals—are facing demolition drives, while Owaisi’s institution is being granted relaxation.

He said the government’s defense—that the college provides education to around 10,000 students—cannot justify the violation of land use norms. “If such relaxations can be made for one structure, why not extend similar compassion to lakhs of economically weaker families living near the Musi?” he asked.

Rao also pointed out that relaxations had been extended to the college even in the previous academic year, and the institution was being allowed to function despite continued legal and environmental concerns. He asserted that the management should have been instructed to relocate the college instead of receiving repeated exemptions.

Further escalating the issue, Rao levelled serious allegations against Akbaruddin Owaisi, accusing him of illegal land grabbing, tax evasion, and even harboring individuals with links to extremist activity. He called for immediate legal action and the demolition of the college structure, terming it a “gross violation of law.”

In addition to his criticism of the Congress and AIMIM, Rao condemned recent attacks on media houses and called on the government to ensure the safety of journalists. He also issued a stern warning to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), asserting that any attempts to target press outlets would be met with strong resistance from the BJP.
