BJP’s real attitude towards Dr BR Ambedkar uncovered

A resolution passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Tuesday urged the Centre to name the new Parliament Building after Dr. BR Ambedkar landed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a tough situation.

M Raghunandan Rao, the lone member of the BJP in the House, was absent when the resolution was passed. Political observers commented on his absence as an indication of the BJP’s hesitation to name the new Parliament building after Dr. Ambedkar.

One of the other BJP members, Eatala Rajendar, was suspended from the House for his disrespectful remarks against the Chair and his refusal to apologize. In addition, Raja Singh, another BJP legislator has been detained for making reported incendiary remarks against a religion.

By cleverly introducing the resolution, the Treasury benches scored a point in the Assembly. It was speculated that the BJP, which got wind of the resolution being introduced, had made sure none of its legislators were in the House when it was discussed.

TRS functionary commented on the episode that while the BJP dodged the political punch, it had completely exposed its true nature and its attitude towards Ambedkar. BJP’s only option was to ensure its MLAs were not in the House, which was a clever move devised by TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The first engineered his own suspension, while the second silently walked out of the House to avoid voting, he noted. Treasure bench members felt that the BJP had disrespected Ambedkar by distancing itself from the voting process.

It would be appropriate to name the newly-constructed Parliament building after Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, said IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao. Through the Constitution, Ambedkar ensured that the minority had a strong voice in a democratic society.

In addition to the provisions created by Ambedkar under Article 3 of the Constitution, the Telangana State government is implementing Ambedkar’s principles for the welfare and development of all equally.

Congress Legislative Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged the State government to allow Ambedkar’s statue to be installed at Punjagutta junction. Ambedkar’s principles are under threat due to the anti-people policies of the BJP government at the Centre, he said.

Minister Rama Rao intervened and announced that the State government was installing the 125 ft statue of Ambedkar soon, and installation at Punjagutta was not permitted due to Supreme Court orders.

Ahmed Balala, a member of AIMIM, also supported the Bill. Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy later moved the resolution opposing the Electricity (Amendments) Bill 2022. Farmers, the poor, and power sector employees were adversely affected by the bill, he said. Assembly members unanimously passed the resolution.
