Bollywood Anticipates Another Hit with “Baby John” Based on South Indian Blockbuster Tehri

Bollywood is abuzz with anticipation as the upcoming Hindi-language action drama film “Baby John” gears up for release, drawing inspiration from the acclaimed Tamil blockbuster “Theri” directed by Atlee. Produced by Atlee, Murad Khetani, and Jyoti Deshpande under Jio Studios, Cine1 Studios, and A for Apple Productions, the film stars Varun Dhawan in the titular role, marking a significant venture in his career. Actress Keerthy Suresh makes her highly anticipated Hindi film debut alongside seasoned actors Jackie Shroff and Wamiqa Gabbi, with Sanya Malhotra adding star power in a special appearance.

The narrative revolves around Baby John, a former police officer who stages his own death to safeguard his daughter, portrayed by Keerthy Suresh, from looming threats connected to his tumultuous past. However, their peaceful existence is soon shattered when adversaries resurface, compelling Baby John to confront his history head-on to protect his loved ones.

“Baby John” is an adaptation of “Theri,” which garnered widespread acclaim upon its release in 2016. The Tamil original, starring Vijay in the lead role, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson, was celebrated for its gripping storyline and compelling performances. It resonated well with audiences, grossing ₹150 crore (approximately US$18 million) globally against a production budget of ₹75 crore (approximately US$9 million).
