BRS Faces Major Setback, Eight Candidates Lose Deposits

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) faced a significant setback, losing all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies it contested. Adding to their embarrassment, eight of their candidates lost their security deposits, an outcome generally considered the worst for a political party and its candidates in an election.

Among the BRS candidates who forfeited their deposits was Gaddam Srinivas Yadav from the Hyderabad constituency. He garnered only 18,641 votes, making him the BRS candidate with the fewest votes in this election.

Others who lost their deposits included a Congress candidate, Md Waliullah Sameer from Hyderabad, and two BJP candidates, Vinod Rao Tandra from Khammam and Prof. Azmeera Seetaram Naik from Mahbubabad.

The additional BRS candidates who lost their security deposits were Athram Sakku (Adilabad), Bajireddy Goverdhan Reddy (Nizamabad), Ragidi Laxma Reddy (Malkajgiri), T. Padma Rao Goud (Secunderabad), Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj (Chevella), Gali Anil Kumar (Zaheerabad), and Manne Srinivas Reddy (Mahbubnagar).

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), candidates who do not secure at least one-sixth of the votes cast will lose their security deposits. For general category candidates, the deposit is ₹25,000, while for those contesting from constituencies reserved for the SC and ST communities, the deposit is ₹12,500.
