Dasoju Sravan, senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has challenged the Congress party leadership to first implement such measures in Congress-ruled states, casting doubt on the sincerity of the SC and ST declaration announced by the Congress party during a public meeting in Chevella.
Sravan questioned AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge’s awareness of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s measures for the empowerment and development of the state’s SC and ST populations.
Sravan highlighted a specific case within Congress MLA D Seethakka’s family, whose parents received land pattas from the Telangana government for their Podu holdings, and emphasized the contradiction between the Congress party’s statements on land distribution and reality.
He also stressed the BRS government’s vast distribution of Podu lands in the state and accused the Congress of making promises it couldn’t keep.
Sravan went on to criticize Kharge and the Congress central leadership, citing Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s efforts and policies to uplift Dalits and tribals in Telangana.
In response to the Congress declaration, Telangana Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao advised that Kharge start with Karnataka, where the Congress had recently won an election.
Satyavathi Rathod, Minister for Tribal Welfare, also blasted the Congress, blaming it for the persistent backwardness of the SC and ST groups even 75 years after India’s independence. She emphasized that, despite the state Assembly’s decision urging that the Centre increase ST reservation in Telangana commensurate to population, neither the BJP nor the Congress backed it in Parliament.
