After three major BRS party officials opted to join the Congress, KC Venugopal, General Secretary of the Congress party, made a critical comment at the leadership of Telangana’s Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). He said, “The ground is rapidly slipping from under the BRS’ feet!”
M Hanumanth Rao, the sitting Malkajgiri MLA, former MLA V. Veeresham, and Mynampally Rohit have all joined the Congress party, which is likely to provide the Congress a significant boost and strengthen its link with the people of Telangana.
Venugopal expressed confidence that the inclusion of these figures in the Congress ranks demonstrates the party’s strong public support in Telangana. He said, “These leaders joining Congress show that the people’s mood is firmly behind us, and we are going to create history in the Assembly Elections!”

BRS MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao, accompanied by his son Rohit, officially joined the Congress Party in a solemn ceremony conducted in the national capital. The function was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and the party’s Telangana unit president, Anumula Revanth Reddy. On the same day, former BRS MLA Vemula Veeresham joined the Congress party.
With Telangana’s 2018 elections set to feature a triangular struggle between the BJP, the ruling BRS, and the Congress, the recruitment of these key personalities to the Congress party might have significant ramifications. These changes are being keenly monitored since they may give insights into the political scene ahead of the key Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Moreover, elections are scheduled in numerous other states this year, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.
